The report cites a 2021 study by Colorado Parks and Wildlife in which a trout was captured in a clean tributary only inches upstream from its confluence with Lincoln Creek and then exposed to the water collected in Lincoln only a few inches downstream.

Water quality issues on Lincoln Creek have been a concern for years, with the creek above the reservoir often running a yellowish color, and Grizzly Reservoir often a bright turquoise.
